All electric heater works on single principal i.e. it passes electric current to coil which resist electric current, in the process of resisting current, the coil itself is heated up thus converting electric energy in to heat energy. There are different kinds of electric heater available to suit your need. It is always better to have separate electric heater even though you have a central electric heating system. As electric heater will provide you heat only in the area required by you and does not heat the empty rooms which you are not using at that moment. By installing electric heater you can also lower the thermostat of your central heating system for the rest of your house and only use extra heat of an electric heater where you require, thereby saving on your heating bills.

Most important thing is proper insulation to save cost on your heating bill and increase the efficiency of electric heater. Proper insulation helps in retaining heat within your confide space and simultaneously prevent outside colder air to pass through. You can also think of changing your normal windows to climate controlling double paned windows. Though they might prove costlier initially they will return your investment by saving your energy cost on heating. As most of the electric heater have build in thermostat and automatic switch off function, both the above method will help an electric heater to run at maximum efficient level to control the temperature of the room without running for longer times.

There are many kinds of electric heater available; it is advisable to buy one after studying your requirement. Like if you are choosing heater for garage or outdoor workshop where it is not possible to insulate or isolate it properly, it is better to buy radiative heater. Movable radiative heater does not heat the surrounding cold air. It emits radiative energy. This energy is converted to heat when it strikes a solid object. Thus it will not use extra energy to heat empty space but will radiate heat only where you require. For indoor purpose an electric heater with fan to properly circulate heated air will help to heat your room faster and even throughout your room.

Last but not the least remembers to switch off an electric heater when not in use. Even in standby mode electric gadget consume some amount of electricity. Switching off will prevent such wastage of electricity and your bills.
